Police have released the three PAS volunteer corp members who were remanded for five days to assist investigations into the torching of the Perlis Mufti’s official car.
PAS’ Jabatan Amal Malaysia (JAM) director-general Mohd Nazree Mohd Aris (pic) said the three members were released Friday (May 24).
“We know the truth will prevail. Alhamdulillah, they are finally freed,” he said.
Mohd Nazree said a pasar malam trader who is not an Amal member was charged with torching the Perlis Mufti’s car at the Kangar Sessions Court.
Earlier, Bernama reported that Mohd Azimar Abdul Razak, 36 of Kampung Jelempok, Arau, was charged with committing the offence with the intention of causing damage to the Honda Accord car at the mufti’s home in Jalan Pesiaran Wawasan, Kangar, together with several others at about 5am on May 22.
He pleaded not guilty when charged with torching Perlis Mufti Datuk Seri Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin’s car at the Kangar Sessions Court.
The offence is also punishable under Section 435 of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, he is liable to a maximum 14 years jail and a fine.
Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad allowed Mohd Azimar to be released on a RM8,000 bail with one surety.
The court fixed July 2 for re-mention of the case.
Azimar’s accomplice known as Mie Tomoi is still at large. thestar
