Johor PAS plans to contest in more than 40 seats in the next general election if the proposal to sever ties with PKR becomes a reality.
PAS Ulama chief and Johor commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed said the party was ready to contest in more seats now that it was no longer tied to any seat allocation agreement as in the previous general election under the opposition pact.
In the last general election, PAS fielded candidates in eight parliamentary seats and 30 state seats in Johor, he said.
“If it is decided that we are on our own, we will fight in possibly more than 40 seats in Johor,” he said after attending the Johor PAS convention at Parit Bisu here yesterday.
Mahfodz said the final decision on the PAS-PKR relationship lay with the syura council, which is the highest advisory body in the party.
The PAS muktamar will take place in Alor Setar from April 27 to May 1, together with party elections.-thestaronline
