KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against a coach of the state Sporting Council shooting squad to facilitate investigations into the death of a man in the backyard of his house in Gong Badak here.

State Deputy CID Chief Supt K. Manoharan said police would investigate the 48-year-old coach under Section 304 of the Penal Code for culpable homicide and Section 307 for attempted murder.

The incident occurred at about 5pm on Monday when a 34-year-old man was shot dead after he was believed to have tried to break into the coach’s house.

The coach’s wife heard sounds of someone trying to break into the house and made a distress call to her husband, who was at a nearby shooting range with two of their daughters.

Supt Manoharan said the dead had a criminal record that included drug abuse.

He succumbed to two gunshots wounds after being hit in the chest.

Police seized a Glock .22 pistol from the coach.

“I was shivering in fear at the time of the incident,” the wife of the coach said after the incident.

She said the man probably tried to enter the house through the kitchen.

Neighbour Nur Amalina Abdul Kadir, 36, said she heard two gunshots at the back of her house while she was browsing the Internet.

“I was exhausted at the time as I had just returned home after school co-curricular activities and never gave much attention to the gunshots.

“It was normal for hunters to gun down wild boars in our neighbourhood,” said the teacher.-The Star Online
